I’ve got 116 square feet.

Think you don’t have room for a garden?  I live in a city apartment, and I have two small gardens.  My main kitchen garden is my 10X10 plot at the neighborhood community garden.  The second is a small space in the front of my apartment where I have planted herbs and a 4X4 raised bed.

Think it isn’t worth it?  In these very small spaces I have raised the following:

Butterhead lettuce

Crispehead lettuce

Romaine

Two varieties of spinach

Snow peas

Shelling Peas

Carrots

Onions

Leeks

Pole Beans

Swiss Chard

Parsley

Chives

Marjoram

Tomatoes

Cilantro

Oregano

Lavendar

Sage

Tarragon

Brocolli

The trick is rotating one crop in after the other crop has finished in order to achieve a very long harvest season in a very small space.  Now, imagine the portions of your lawn that go unused.  With a very modest effort, you could be putting food on your table, spring through fall, and possibly through the winter depending on where you live.

No need to give up the whole lawn!  A little space can go a long way!
